Deutz-Fahr M192 – Engine ECU (EMR): CAN-BUS 0-Line: Primary CAN-BUS communication error
Issue description
A critical communication failure on the primary CAN bus network (CAN A). The system has detected a cable break, a short circuit, an off-state condition, or a message timeout that prevents SAE J1939 data from being transmitted or received across the bus.
Applies to these machines
9 machines- Series 5
- Series 5D
- 5D VSF CVT T4i
- Series 6
- Agrotron M Series
- Agrotron MK3 Series (106, 110, 115, 120, 135, 150, 165)
- 5100 Series
- Nitro
- Virtus
Check the cause
Check the CAN wiring connections on pins 53 through 75 of the M003 Central ECU
Verify that two 120-ohm external terminating resistors exist on the data link
Measure the resistance between the CAN High and CAN Low pins (should be approximately 60 ohms)
Verify if the CAN interface input buffer is overflowing
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical damage during testing.
Inspect the Harness
Locate the primary CAN bus wiring harness connecting the Engine ECU (EMR) to the Central ECU (M003). Visually inspect the entire length for chafing, pinched wires, or melted insulation.
Clean and Reseat Connectors
Disconnect the harness at both the EMR and the M003 controller. Inspect the pins (paying special attention to pins 53-75 on the M003) for corrosion, moisture, or bent terminals. Clean with electrical contact cleaner and reseat firmly.
Test Continuity and Resistance
Using a multimeter, perform a continuity test on the CAN High and CAN Low wires from end to end. Next, measure the resistance across the CAN lines to ensure the 60-ohm standard is met.
Replace Terminating Resistors
If the resistance is incorrect (e.g., 120 ohms or open circuit) and the wiring is intact, locate the external terminating resistors at the ends of the CAN bus and replace the faulty unit.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, power up the tractor, and use the Deutz SERDIA diagnostic software to clear the M192 fault code and verify that communication has been restored.
Parts you might need
(4)CAN Bus Terminating Resistor (120-ohm)
EMR controllers require external resistors as they lack internal termination
Engine ECU (EMR3 / EMR4)
04214367Fitment note: Requires programming via SERDIA software to match the tractor.
Central ECU (M003)
Generic part name; exact SDF part number depends on the specific tractor series and cab configuration.
Primary CAN Bus Wiring Harness
Generic part name; exact part number depends on the chassis.
