Deutz-Fahr M196 – Engine ECU (Deutz EMR): Engine Oil Pressure Sensor - Short circuit to +12V

Issue description

The engine control module is receiving a voltage signal from the oil pressure sensor circuit that is higher than the expected normal operating range. This condition is typically caused by the sensor's signal wire shorting to a power source in the harness, or an internal short-circuit failure within the sensor itself.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness connecting the engine oil pressure sensor to the Engine ECU. Look for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched areas that could cause the signal wire to short to a +12V power source.

  2. Disconnect the sensor and check the connector for corrosion, moisture, or damaged pins.

  3. Check the sensor connection and continuity specifically at the ECU pins (e.g., pins 24, 29, and 44 of the M004 ECU connector, depending on your exact machine model).

  4. With the sensor disconnected, turn the ignition ON and measure the voltage at the signal wire on the harness side. If it reads +12V, the short is in the wiring harness. If the voltage reads normal (usually a 5V reference), the sensor itself has failed internally and is shorted.
