Deutz-Fahr M198 – Engine ECU (EMR - Electronic Motor Regulator): Engine Oil Pressure Sensor

The engine oil pressure sensor is defective, its signal is out of range, or there is a circuit issue (such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to battery). The system is receiving an implausible reading from the sensor, meaning the controller cannot accurately verify the engine's oil pressure.

   Verify actual oil pressure using a mechanical oil pressure gauge to ensure the engine is not actually suffering from dangerously low oil pressure.

   Inspect the electrical connector at the oil pressure sensor (M004 or B090) for backed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture.

   Check the wiring harness between the sensor and the Engine ECU (EMR) for continuity, chafing, or shorts to the engine block.

   Test the sensor's resistance and voltage output to confirm if it has failed internally.

   Preparation

   Turn off the engine, remove the key, and allow the engine to cool.

   Locate the Sensor

   Find the engine oil pressure sensor on the engine block (typically near the oil filter housing or main oil gallery).

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical wiring harness from the sensor.

   Removal

   Using a deep socket or wrench, carefully unscrew the defective sensor from the engine block. Have a rag ready to catch any residual oil.

   Installation

   Clean the threads on the engine port. Install the new OEM oil pressure sensor. Tighten to the OEM torque specification (do not overtighten, as this can crack the block or shear the sensor).

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.

   Clear Codes

   Clear the M198 fault code using a diagnostic tool (such as Deutz SerDia) or perform an ECU reset by cycling the battery power.

   Verification

   Start the engine. Verify that the M198 code does not return and check for oil leaks around the new sensor.
