Deutz-Fahr M209 – Engine ECU (EMR - Engine Management System): Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor - Short circuit to +12V
Issue description
The engine control system detects that the voltage from the rail pressure sensor is abnormally high (shorted to power), which typically forces a torque reduction (engine derate).
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Deutz-Fahr 5100 Series (5100, 5105, 5110, 5115, 5120, 5125, 5130)
- Deutz-Fahr 5D VSF TTV (Tier 4i)
- Deutz-Fahr 5C and 5G Series
- Deutz-Fahr 6 Series (6120 through 6230)
Check the cause
Inspect the physical connection at the rail pressure sensor for corrosion, water ingress, or backed-out pins.
Test the wiring between the sensor and the Engine ECU for a short to +12V (check pins 7, 25, and 26 on the M004 ECU connector, or pins A06, A52, and A40 on the FARMotion KD/KE ECU connector).
Disconnect the sensor to isolate the short. If the short to +12V on the signal wire goes away, the sensor is internally shorted. If the short remains, the wiring harness is rubbed through and touching a power wire.
Repair steps
Turn off the ignition and disconnect the tractor's battery
This prevents electrical spikes.
Locate the fuel rail pressure sensor
It is threaded directly into the high-pressure common fuel rail.
Disconnect the electrical harness from the sensor
Perform the multimeter continuity and voltage checks on the harness
Repair any damaged wiring if a short to power is found in the loom.
Thoroughly clean the area around the sensor
If the wiring is intact, the sensor itself has failed. Clean the area to prevent dirt from entering the open fuel rail.
Relieve any residual fuel pressure, then unscrew and remove the faulty rail pressure sensor
Install the new rail pressure sensor
Tighten it to the OEM torque specification.
Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery
Use a diagnostic tool to clear the M209 / SPN 157 fault code
Start the engine and check for fuel leaks at the rail
Verify that the engine no longer derates and the code does not return.
