M211

Deutz-Fahr M211 – Engine ECU (EMR - Electronic Motor Regulator): Rail Pressure System Fault: Rail pressure above maximum reference threshold

Issue description

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) has detected that the actual fuel pressure in the common rail is incoherent in relation to the pressure setpoint, specifically exceeding the target range based on engine speed and load. When this occurs, the system typically initiates a torque and RPM reduction (limp mode) to protect the engine.

Applies to these machines

  • Deutz-Fahr Series 5
  • Deutz-Fahr Series 5C
  • Deutz-Fahr Series 5D
  • Deutz-Fahr Series 5G
  • Deutz-Fahr Series 6
  • Deutz-Fahr Agrotron
  • Deutz-Fahr Agrofarm

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the primary and secondary fuel filters for clogging, and check low-pressure fuel lines for blockages or kinks.

  2. Visually inspect the entire high-pressure fuel system (pump, rail, injector lines) for external diesel leaks.

  3. Check if the Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) has been forced open by reading the PRV actuation count using a diagnostic tool.

  4. Perform a return flow (leak-off) test on the fuel injectors to check for excessive return quantities (internal leakage).

  5. Check the electrical connections to the Fuel Control Unit (FCU) on the high-pressure pump to ensure the solenoid is receiving current and is not mechanically stuck.

Repair steps

  1. Replace Fuel Filters

If filters are old or clogged, replace them and bleed the low-pressure fuel system. Clear the code and test run the machine.

  2. Reset the PRV Counter

If the PRV was forced open to protect the system, you must use a diagnostic tool (Deutz SerDia or an equivalent off-highway tool like Jaltest) to navigate to the "Maintenance" menu and perform a "Pressure Relief Valve Reset (PRV)". Change the count back to '0'.

  3. Replace the PRV

If the PRV is leaking internally or the fault immediately returns after a reset, the PRV on the fuel rail must be replaced.

  4. Replace Faulty Injectors

If the leak-off test reveals one or more injectors are returning too much fuel, replace the faulty injectors and program their new IMA trim codes into the Engine ECU.

  5. Replace the FCU / High-Pressure Pump

If the injectors and PRV are healthy, but the FCU solenoid is mechanically blocked or the high-pressure pump is worn out, replace the metering unit or the entire high-pressure pump assembly.

  6. Clear Codes

After repairs, use the diagnostic tool to clear the M211 / 523613 fault code and verify rail pressure matches the setpoint during a test drive.

Parts you might need

(5)
  • Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor

    0281006053

Deutz cross-references: 04216218, 04216717, 04297148. While the sensor itself is rarely the root cause of an FMI 0 "above threshold" code, it is often replaced if sensor drift is suspected.

  • Pressure Relief Valve (PRV)

Specific Deutz part number depends on the exact engine serial number.

  • Fuel Control Unit (FCU) / Metering Valve

Usually serviced with the high-pressure pump.

  • Fuel Injectors

    Specific to engine model.

  • Fuel Filters

    Specific to machine model.
