Deutz-Fahr M69 – Engine ECU (EMR) / CENTRAL ENGINE KD/KE: EGR Valve Circuit Short to +12V

Indicates an electrical fault in the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve circuit, specifically a short circuit to +12V on the EGR valve position sensor or power circuit. This is typically caused by a chafed wire shorting to power or an internal short within the EGR actuator motor/sensor, and triggers a protective derate reducing engine torque and speed.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the EGR valve for damaged, pinched, or corroded wires that could be shorting to a power source.

   Test the specific ECU pins for a short circuit to +12V, specifically checking pin A36, as well as pins A04 and A19 on the engine ECU harness.

   Disconnect the EGR valve connector to isolate the short. If the short to +12V disappears on the ECU side of the harness, the short is internal to the EGR valve actuator. If the short remains, the wiring harness is damaged.

   Preparation

   Turn off the ignition, disconnect the battery, and allow the engine to cool.

   Removal

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the EGR valve. Unbolt the EGR valve from the intake/exhaust manifold.

   Cleaning

   Inspect and clean the connecting pipes and manifold mating surfaces. If significant soot or contamination is found, determine the root cause (e.g., poor combustion), or the new valve may fail prematurely. Ensure no debris falls into the intake.

   Installation

   Install the new EGR valve. Always use new gaskets. Torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications and reconnect the electrical harness.

   ECU Calibration

   Connect a diagnostic tool (such as Deutz SerDia2010, Jaltest, or equivalent dealer software) and perform an 'EGR actuator reset'. This auto-calibration allows the Engine ECU to learn the end positions (open/closed) of the new valve.

   Verification

   Clear the fault codes, start the engine, and verify that the torque/speed derate has been lifted and the M69 code does not return.
