T17

Deutz-Fahr T17 – Transmission / Hydraulic Shuttle ECU: Seat Sensor Signal Level Invalid

Issue description

The control unit has detected an invalid signal from the operator presence sensor (seat switch). The ECU monitors the voltage of the seat sensor to verify if the operator is seated, expecting approximately 1.0V when seated and 4.0V when empty. Any reading outside these parameters triggers the T17 fault code, causing the tractor to enter a Limp Home mode where direction inversion via the hydraulic shuttle requires manually depressing the clutch pedal.

Applies to these machines

  • Agroplus 310, 320, 410, and 420 Profiline series tractors
  • Agroplus 310
  • Agroplus 320
  • Agroplus 410
  • Agroplus 420 Profiline
  • Agrofarm 410
  • Agrofarm 420
  • Agrofarm 430
  • Agrotron
  • Agrokid
  • SAME Explorer
  • Lamborghini

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness (specifically circuit 40-920) between the seat sensor and the ECU for chafing, breaks, or loose connections.

  2. Ensure the sensor is receiving the correct reference voltage from the ECU.

  3. Verify the ground and power stage circuits.

  4. Back-probe the sensor connector to test output voltage (should be ~1.0V when weight is applied and ~4.0V when empty).

Repair steps

  1. Power down tractor

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the sensor

Locate the operator presence sensor, typically mounted under the bottom cushion of the operator's seat or integrated into the seat suspension plate.

  3. Inspect and clean connector

Disconnect the sensor's electrical connector. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and inspect for corrosion.

  4. Replace the sensor

If the sensor failed the voltage test, unbolt/unclip the faulty sensor and install the replacement unit. Ensure proper alignment if the kit includes a magnetic switch mechanism.

  5. Reassemble and reconnect

Plug the wiring harness back into the new sensor and reconnect the battery.

  6. Clear fault codes

Connect a diagnostic tool with SDF Analyser or SERDIA 2000 level III software to the tractor's diagnostic socket to clear the T17 historical fault code.

  7. Test operation

Start the tractor, sit in the seat, and verify that the hydraulic shuttle allows direction inversion without requiring the clutch pedal.
