Deutz-Fahr T66 – Hydraulic Shuttle ECU or Transmission Control Unit (TCU / VDC2): Clutch pedal position sensor (potentiometer) is shorting to battery positive (+12V)
Issue description
The control unit has detected that the clutch pedal position sensor (potentiometer) is shorting to battery positive (+12V). This means the signal voltage returning to the controller is abnormally high, typically indicating a wiring short or an internal failure of the sensor itself.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Agroplus 310, 320, 410, and 420 Profiline series tractors
- Agrofarm 410, 420, 430
- Series 5D VSF TTV (Tier 4i)
- Agrotron series (e.g., MK3, M620 Profiline)
Check the cause
Check the clutch pedal potentiometer connector for water ingress and test continuity across the pins.
If the connector is in good physical condition but shows signs of corrosion, degrease and clean the contacts using a dedicated electrical deoxidising product.
Check the wiring harness between the Transmission Control Unit (VDC2) and the clutch pedal for a short circuit to +12V (VDC2 connector A4/4: Pin 4 GND to Pedal Pin 2, Pin 12 Signal to Pedal Pin 4, Pin 11 to Voltage supply).
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery before servicing electrical components to prevent further shorting.
Examine the Harness
Trace the wiring from the clutch pedal potentiometer back to the ECU/TCU. Look for chafed insulation where the wire might be rubbing against a +12V source. Repair any damaged wiring.
Test the Sensor
If the wiring harness is intact and no external short to +12V is found, the internal tracks of the potentiometer are likely shorted.
Replace the Sensor
Unbolt the faulty clutch pedal potentiometer from the pedal assembly and disconnect the wiring harness. Install the new OEM sensor and reconnect the harness.
Calibration
After replacing the potentiometer, the new sensor's end-stops (fully released and fully depressed positions) must be calibrated to the Transmission ECU. Depending on the model, this is done via the tractor's onboard diagnostic menu or using the SDF SERDIA diagnostic software interface.
