Deutz-Fahr T96 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Short circuit to +12V in the control line of the reverse travel proportional solenoid valve
Issue description
The control unit has detected battery voltage (+12V) on the circuit responsible for actuating the reverse direction hydraulic shuttle valve. This typically points to a wiring harness short to a power source or an internal short within the solenoid coil itself.

Check the cause
Check the wiring harness between the Transmission Control Unit and the reverse travel solenoid valve for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched harnesses that could cause a short to +12V.
Disconnect the reverse solenoid valve and measure the resistance of the coil to check for internal shorts to the valve housing or across the pins.
Verify the power supply and ground connections to the valve and the TCU to ensure proper voltage regulation.
Repair steps
Safely park the tractor on level ground, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.
Locate the reverse travel proportional solenoid valve on the transmission valve block.
Usually paired alongside the forward travel solenoid.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the reverse solenoid valve.
Using a multimeter, test the wiring harness for continuity to battery positive (+12V) with the key on.
If voltage is present on the control ground side, trace the harness back to the TCU and repair the shorted wire.
If the wiring is intact and not shorted, test the solenoid coil itself.
If the coil is internally shorted, it must be replaced.
Thoroughly clean the area around the transmission valve block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Remove the retaining nut/screws and slide the solenoid coil off, or unthread the entire cartridge valve.
Depending on your specific transmission block design.
Install the new solenoid valve/coil and tighten to OEM specifications.
Reconnect the electrical connector.
Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool.
Perform a shuttle calibration procedure.
Often required when replacing transmission solenoids via the tractor's instrument cluster or diagnostic tool to ensure smooth forward/reverse engagement.
Test drive the tractor to verify that code T96 does not return.
