Fendt 0.1.56 – ECU (EDC or EMR): Engine Temperature Sensor (Water/Coolant) Malfunction

Issue description

Sensor fault or wiring fault causing the signal to be lost or out of range. The system triggers a safety default where the engine temperature is no longer monitored.

Check the cause

  1. Locate Sensor B005 (engine coolant temperature sensor) on the engine block/water jacket.

  2. Visually inspect the sensor's wiring harness and connector for physical damage, corrosion, or loose pins (wiring failure is a primary cause).

  3. Perform a continuity test on the wiring between the B005 sensor and the EDC/EMR control module to check for open circuits or short circuits to ground.

  4. Test the sensor resistance to determine if the sensor itself is internally shorted or open.

Repair steps

  1. Turn off ignition and disconnect battery

    Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Repair wiring

    If the diagnostic checks reveal a wiring break, repair the damaged section of the harness or replace the connector pigtail.

  3. Prepare for sensor replacement

    If the sensor (B005) is deemed faulty, prepare to replace it. Place a catch pan under the sensor area, as removing it will release engine coolant.

  4. Disconnect electrical plug

    Disconnect the electrical plug from the sensor.

  5. Remove faulty sensor

    Unscrew the faulty B005 temperature sensor from the engine block.

  6. Install new sensor

    Install the new sensor (ensure the sealing ring is in place) and tighten it to the manufacturer's torque specification.

  7. Reconnect harness

    Reconnect the electrical harness.

  8. Top up coolant

    Top up the engine coolant to replace any fluid lost during the swap.

  9. Clear fault codes and verify

    Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, and use the FENDIAS diagnostic system (or the tractor's onboard terminal) to clear the fault codes. Verify that the dashpanel now accurately reads the engine temperature.
