Fendt 00.0.01 – A050 - ECU, basic control unit: Bus fault EDC, no speed setting to EDC.

Issue description

CAN bus communication failure between the tractor's basic control unit and the Engine Control Unit (EDC/EMR). Because of this communication breakdown, the engine speed setpoint (throttle command) is not being successfully transmitted to the engine controller, resulting in an 'Engine malfunction' state, restricted engine function, or the tractor defaulting to a limp/emergency mode.

Check the cause

  1. Check the CAN bus wiring harness (G-bus/transmission bus) between the A050 Basic Control Unit and the A051/A169 Engine Control Unit (EDC) for chafed wires, corrosion, or loose pins at the connectors.

  2. Retrieve all codes via the tractor terminal to check for accompanying bus-related codes (e.g., 00.0.02 or 01.1.05) that point to a wider CAN network short or open circuit.

  3. Verify that the A050 ECU is receiving proper operating voltage and has a clean ground connection.

  4. Check for software or programming issues, such as a loss of parameters or checksum errors in the A050 memory.

Repair steps

  1. Resolve Physical Connection Issues

    If a wiring fault is found between the A050 and the EDC, repair the wiring harness or replace the damaged connector pins.

  2. EOL Programming

    Perform EOL (End of Line) programming. Connect the FENDIAS diagnostic tool and re-flash/re-program the A050 basic control unit to restore the correct communication parameters with the EDC.

  3. Clear Fault Codes

    Once programming is complete, clear the stored fault codes from the memory using the terminal's fault menu or FENDIAS.

  4. Module Repair/Replacement

    If EOL programming fails (e.g., 'Memory in EXT could not be reserved') or the A050 has suffered internal hardware failure, remove the unit. Send the A050 to a specialized agricultural electronics repair facility or replace it with a new OEM unit.

  5. Post-Installation

    If a new or repaired A050 is installed, EOL programming and calibration of the transmission/TMS will be strictly required before the tractor will operate normally.
