Fendt 00.0.0F – A038 / A111: Bus fault, central electrical system

Issue description

Communication failure on the tractor's CAN bus network involving the central electrical system. The system registers that the module is not reporting to the bus correctly, which typically triggers an 'EOL (End of Line) programming' error and can render various electrical functions (like lighting, wipers, and air conditioning controls) non-operable.

Applies to these machines

  • 922 Vario COM III
  • 924 Vario COM III
  • 927 Vario COM III
  • 930 Vario COM III
  • 933 Vario COM III
  • 936 Vario COM III
  • Fendt 300 Vario (COM III)
  • Fendt 400 Vario (COM III)
  • Fendt 700 Vario (COM III & SCR)
  • Fendt 800 Vario (COM III & SCR)
  • Fendt 900 Vario (COM III, SCR, S4)
  • Fendt 1000 Vario series

Check the cause

  1. Disconnect the battery and check the main fuses in the X1440 fuse holder (fuses 1-23) that supply power to the central electrical system

  2. Use the Fendt 160-pin adapter box to test the pinouts at the A038 ECU for proper voltage and ground

  3. With the ignition OFF, measure the terminating resistance of the control bus at the A038 ECU (internal resistor should measure 120 ohms, parallel bus resistance approximately 60 ohms)

  4. Inspect the wiring harness at separation points (e.g., X454, X455) for corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Always disconnect the tractor's battery before servicing the central electrical system.

  2. Examine the Harness

Access the A038 ECU and unplug the connectors. Inspect for physical damage or water ingress.

  3. Test the Bus

Perform the resistance and continuity checks on the CAN bus lines as outlined in the diagnostic steps. Repair any broken wires or shorts in the harness.

  4. Replace the ECU

If the wiring, power, and grounds are intact but the bus fault persists, the A038 ECU has suffered an internal failure and must be replaced.

  5. EOL Programming

Install the new A038 ECU. You must perform EOL (End of Line) programming using the FENDIAS diagnostic software. The tractor will not recognize the new module or restore functionality until the ECU is programmed to match the tractor's specific chassis configuration.
