Check the cause

  1. Check the 'Down' key on the A036 control panel for physical damage, sticking, or debris lodged around the button housing (ensure the button springs back freely).

  2. Test the other buttons on the panel (Enter, Esc, Up). If companion codes 00.1.71, 00.1.72, or 00.1.73 are present, the entire panel may have lost its ground or communication link.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness connector (X1357) at the rear of the A036 control panel for backed-out pins, moisture, or corrosion.

  4. Verify continuity between the A036 control panel harness and the A007 Instrument cluster to rule out a broken wire in the dashboard harness.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the ignition and disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Panel

Carefully pry or unscrew the trim/bezel surrounding the A036 dashboard control panel (located to the right/left of the main instrument cluster depending on the specific Vario model).

  3. Disconnect Harness

Unplug the electrical connector (X1357) from the back of the A036 control panel.

  4. Clean Contacts

If the connector shows signs of dust or mild oxidation, clean it with a dedicated electronic contact cleaner and let it dry.

  5. Replace Component

If the wiring tests good but the button remains dead (internal microswitch failure), the A036 control panel is a sealed unit and must be replaced entirely. Plug the harness into the new control panel.

  6. Reassembly

Snap or screw the control panel back into the dashboard console and reinstall the trim pieces.

  7. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, and use the FENDIAS diagnostic tool (or the onboard terminal) to clear the inactive 00.1.74 fault code. Test the Down key to ensure functionality.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • A036 Dashboard Control Panel (Right/Left Control Console)

Specific OEM part numbers vary heavily by the exact chassis serial number and series. Look up the exact part number in the AGCO/Fendt parts catalog using the tractor's VIN, searching under the 'Central Electrics' or 'Instrument Cluster' sub-assembly for component A036. Ensure you are ordering the correct orientation (Right vs. Left dashboard panel).
