01.1.05

Fendt 01.1.05 – A051 - ECU, engine control unit (EDC 7): A051 - ECU, engine control unit (EDC 7). Not able to read-off engine configuration from EDC control unit.

Issue description

A communication or memory failure where the tractor's basic control unit (A050) cannot retrieve the necessary engine configuration data from the engine's control unit. This causes the Tractor Management System (TMS) to become non-operable, the EDC to possibly stop working, and the G-Bus to possibly be interrupted.

Applies to these machines

  • 922 Vario COM III
  • 924 Vario COM III
  • 927 Vario COM III
  • 930 Vario COM III
  • 933 Vario COM III
  • 936 Vario COM III
  • Fendt 300 Vario COM III (309, 310, 311, 312)
  • Fendt 400 Vario COM III
  • Fendt 700 Vario COM III
  • Fendt 800 Vario COM III (815, 817, 818, 828)
  • Fendt 900 Vario COM III (916, 919, 920, 922, 924, 925, 926, 927, 928, 930, 931, 933, 934, 936)

Check the cause

  1. Check the voltage and power supply directly at the A051 Engine Control Unit to ensure no voltage drops are preventing transmission.

  2. Inspect the G-Bus (Transmission BUS) for any physical interruptions, shorts, or communication faults between the A050 Basic Control Unit and the A051 Engine Control Unit.

  3. Inspect the main wiring harness and connector pins at the A051 EDC 7 ECU (specifically connector X1466) for corrosion, moisture, or damage.

Repair steps

  1. Visual & Electrical Inspection

Inspect the wiring harness leading to the A051 Engine Control Unit. Use a multimeter to ensure there are no broken wires or loose connections on the G-Bus lines.

  2. Voltage Test

Measure the power supply and ground at the A051 ECU to ensure it is receiving adequate and stable voltage.

  3. Software/Configuration Reset

If the wiring, power, and bus lines are intact, the issue is likely corrupted software or lost memory inside the ECU. Connect the FENDIAS diagnostic tool and attempt an EOL (End of Line) programming to rewrite the engine configuration data to the EDC control unit.

  4. ECU Repair/Replacement

If the ECU cannot be reprogrammed, fails to communicate entirely, or is internally damaged, remove the defective A051 EDC 7 ECU. It must either be sent to a specialized agricultural electronics repair service or replaced with a new/remanufactured unit.

  5. Immobilizer Sync

If replacing the unit, ensure the new or donor unit is cloned or programmed to match the specific tractor's chassis number and immobilizer configuration (A077), otherwise the tractor will not start.
