03.1.01

Fendt 03.1.01 – A039 - MFA (Multifunction Armrest): Faulty hardware (e.g. RAM without flash)

Issue description

Internal hardware or memory failure within the armrest's circuitry. The internal RAM is failing to read/write or has lost its flash memory, causing the multifunction armrest to become completely non-operable and unable to communicate its parameters to the tractor's main systems.

Applies to these machines

  • 922 Vario COM III
  • 924 Vario COM III
  • 927 Vario COM III
  • 930 Vario COM III
  • 933 Vario COM III
  • 936 Vario COM III
  • 200 Vario (207, 208, 209, 210, 211)
  • 300 Vario
  • 400 Vario
  • 700 Vario
  • 800 Vario
  • 900 Vario (916, 920, 922, 924, 926, 930, 936)

Check the cause

  1. Restart the tractor and attempt to clear the code via the terminal to see if it is a transient memory glitch.

  2. Verify the physical CAN bus connection by testing the A039 MFA connection to the central electrical system using a 160-pin adapter box to rule out a broken harness or bad pin.

  3. Connect the FENDIAS diagnostic software to see if the A039 module can be communicated with at all. If unresponsive, the hardware is definitively bricked.

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic system

Connect the tractor to the FENDIAS / SERDIA diagnostic system.

  2. Attempt EOL programming

Attempt to re-flash the A039 Multifunction Armrest via EOL programming to restore the missing flash memory.

  3. Evaluate EOL programming

If the EOL programming fails, is rejected, or the code immediately returns, the internal RAM is physically damaged and the armrest cannot be salvaged.

  4. Disconnect battery

    Disconnect the tractor's battery.

  5. Remove armrest

Remove the trim panels and mounting bracket screws securing the A039 armrest to the Grammer seat console.

  6. Disconnect harness

Disconnect the main wiring harness from the bottom of the armrest.

  7. Install new armrest

Install the new A039 Multifunction Armrest assembly and reconnect the harness.

  8. Reconnect battery and program

Reconnect the battery. You must use the FENDIAS tool to perform EOL programming on the new armrest so it is recognized by the A050 Basic Control Unit and calibrated to the tractor's specific equipment level.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • A039 Multifunction Armrest (MFA) Assembly / Joystick Console

Exact part number is highly dependent on the tractor's chassis number and trim level. Must use chassis number in Fendt Epsilon parts catalog.

  • Grammer right-hand console bracket

    1346896

For Fendt SCR/SC4 multifunction armrests, if the mounting bracket is damaged.
