Fendt 03.1.09 – A039 - MFA (Multifunction Armrest): Invalid parameters for brightness setting in the EEPROM.
Issue description
The non-volatile memory (EEPROM) inside the armrest controller has lost, corrupted, or failed to read the specific parameter values that control the backlighting/brightness settings of the armrest console.
Applies to these machines
11 machines- 922 Vario COM III
- 924 Vario COM III
- 927 Vario COM III
- 930 Vario COM III
- 933 Vario COM III
- 936 Vario COM III
- Fendt 300 Vario (COM III)
- Fendt 400 Vario (COM III)
- Fendt 700 Vario (COM III & SCR)
- Fendt 800 Vario (COM III & SCR)
- Fendt 900 Vario (COM III & SCR)
Check the cause
Check for accompanying A039 MFA fault codes (e.g., 03.1.01, 03.1.02, 03.1.03) which may indicate physical hardware damage rather than just a software parameter loss.
Check CAN bus communication between the MFA and the A050 Basic Control Unit, including wiring and fuses (e.g., fuse board A013), especially if the armrest is completely dead.
Perform a functionality test to see if brightness can be adjusted manually via the terminal or if it defaults to a predefined value.
Repair steps
Connect Diagnostic Tool
Connect the FENDIAS (Fendt Diagnostic System) laptop/tool to the tractor's diagnostic port.
Perform EOL Programming
Navigate to the A039 MFA module and execute EOL (End-Of-Line) programming. This will rewrite the factory parameters and correct checksums back into the EEPROM.
Calibrate
If prompted by the EOL software, perform any necessary calibrations for the armrest components (e.g., crossgate lever or throttle pedal resolution).
Clear and Retest
Clear the fault codes. Cycle the tractor's ignition and verify that the MFA backlighting functions correctly and the code does not return.
Hardware Replacement/Repair
If the EOL programming fails to write to the EEPROM, the memory chip or the A039 circuit board has physically failed. The MFA will need to be removed and either sent to an agricultural electronics specialist for board-level EEPROM repair, or replaced entirely.
Parts you might need
(2)A039 Multifunction Armrest (MFA) / MFA Control Board
Order based on the specific tractor chassis number. When replacing the entire unit, EOL programming and TeachIn initialization via FENDIAS will still be required to pair it with the tractor's A050 Basic Control Unit.
