Fendt 04.1.08 – Transmission Control System (ECU A050): Travel Range Detection Sensor Fault

This fault code indicates a failure in the B016 travel range detection sensor, its signal, or its 8.5V power supply. The sensor monitors the physical position of the transmission's range control. When active, the Tractor Management System (TMS) is disabled, and the transmission cannot switch between operating ranges, locking the tractor in its current driving range.

   Check the 8.5V power supply by inspecting the corresponding fuse on the A013 fuse board (e.g., Fuse 06, 08, or 13 depending on model).

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the B016 sensor and the transmission control unit for rubbed-through wires, corrosion, or a disconnected plug.

   Check for related fault codes (such as F12, F13, F20, F21, or F22) which may indicate issues with the travel range solenoid valves (Y002/Y003) or missing range control calibration.

   Safely secure the machine

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

   Locate the sensor

   Locate the B016 travel range detection sensor on the transmission housing.

   Test voltage

   Disconnect the sensor plug and turn the ignition on. Use a multimeter to verify that the 8.5V reference voltage is reaching the connector. If missing, trace wiring back to the A013 board and replace the blown fuse or repair the broken wire.

   Replace the sensor

   If 8.5V is present, the B016 sensor has failed internally. Unbolt and remove the faulty sensor, install the new OEM sensor, torque to manufacturer specifications, and reconnect the wiring harness.

   Clear codes and calibrate

   Connect to the tractor via FENDIAS (Fendt Diagnostic System). Clear the 04.1.08 fault code. Depending on the model, you may need to run a transmission range calibration procedure so the ECU can relearn the neutral, Range I, and Range II positions.

   Test drive

   Verify that the TMS can be activated and that the tractor successfully shifts between operating ranges.
