04.1.2F

Fendt 04.1.2F – MFA (Multifunction Armrest): Signal fault with the joystick in the multifunction armrest

Issue description

A036 - 'v- transmission control' (joystick to rear) indicating a faulty joystick signal for the 'v-' command. The tractor will typically allow continuation in emergency mode.

Applies to these machines

  • 309 Vario COM III
  • 310 Vario COM III
  • 311 Vario COM III
  • 312 Vario COM III
  • Fendt 300 Vario
  • Fendt 700 Vario (including SCR models)
  • Fendt 800 Vario
  • Fendt 900 Vario (including COM III, SCR, and S4 models)

Check the cause

  1. Attempt to clear the fault code by performing a key reset/restart of the tractor

  2. Inspect the Vario drive lever/joystick for physical damage, sticking buttons, or worn components

  3. Check the transmission control circuit diagram to verify the wiring and connections between the joystick and the MFA control unit

  4. Test if the tractor registers other joystick commands (like 'v+' joystick forward) to determine if the issue is isolated to the rearward motion sensor/switch or if the entire CAN circuit board is failing

Repair steps

  1. Removal

Disconnect the battery and remove the defective joystick/drive lever from the multifunction armrest.

  2. Component Replacement (Buttons/Switches)

If replacing individual buttons, note that factory buttons are often melted into the lower part of the joystick. You may need to carefully dismantle the old button (e.g., using a small chisel) before installing the replacement.

  3. Circuit Board Repair

If the internal CAN circuit board or directional sensor is defective, the unit can be sent to a specialized agricultural electronics repair service (such as Ilgenfritz Mechatronics) for a rebuild, which is often more cost-effective than buying a new assembly.

  4. Reinstallation

Install the repaired or new joystick unit, ensuring the wiring harness is securely plugged into the armrest's CANBUS network.

  5. Calibration/Testing

Turn on the tractor, clear any stored fault codes, and test the transmission manual control by moving the joystick to the rear ('v-') to ensure the signal fault has been resolved.
