Fendt 04.1.32 – A039 - MFA (Multifunction Armrest): A039 - MFA, multifunction armrest. Joystick activation button. Faulty button, signal fault.
Issue description
The system has detected an electrical or signal error from the activation button (drive lever button) located on the main Vario joystick. The system cannot verify the button's state, which triggers a safety protocol restricting normal operation.

Check the cause
Inspect the joystick activation button for physical damage, sticking, or debris that might be preventing the microswitch from returning to its neutral position.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the joystick and the A039 MFA control unit for continuity, pinched wires, or corrosion.
Use a 160-pin adapter box or FENDIAS diagnostic software to test the A039 module's inputs. Monitor the live data to see if the button's signal changes state when pressed.
Verify if the fault clears after a tractor restart. If the code is hard-set and immediately returns, the internal microswitch or the joystick's internal CAN circuit board has likely failed.
Repair steps
Prep the Machine
Park the tractor on a level surface, power down the ignition, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Access the MFA
Carefully remove the protective covers and disassemble the multifunction armrest (MFA) to access the base of the Vario joystick and its wiring harness.
Disconnect the Joystick
Unplug the joystick's wiring harness from the MFA control board.
Component Replacement/Repair
If the physical plastic button is broken, aftermarket replacement button caps can sometimes be swapped in. If the internal microswitch or signal board is faulty, replace the entire joystick switch assembly or have the internal Vario CAN circuit board rebuilt by a specialized repair shop.
Reinstallation
Install the new or repaired joystick assembly into the armrest and securely reconnect the wiring harness.
Reassemble and Test
Reassemble the MFA plastics, reconnect the battery, and turn on the ignition.
Clear Codes
Use the tractor's terminal or FENDIAS software to clear the 04.1.32 fault code. Test the joystick activation button to ensure normal transmission operation is restored and emergency mode is deactivated.
