04.1.50

Fendt 04.1.50 – Transmission Control Unit (Transmission TCU / EST Module): S017 - 'Transmission oil filter clogged' switch

Issue description

The transmission oil filter is clogged or heavily contaminated. The system logs this when the S017 switch detects restricted flow/pressure changes indicative of a blocked filter.

Check the cause

  1. Check transmission oil temperature (must be above 50°C/122°F for the S017 switch to be active)

  2. Physically inspect the transmission oil filter for actual contamination, sludge, or debris

  3. Perform a plausibility check on the S017 switch (e.g., if it shows contamination when the engine is off, the switch is likely stuck)

  4. Test the wiring harness linking the S017 switch to the TCU for short-circuits, open circuits, or signal line faults

Repair steps

  1. Warm Up the Machine

Run the tractor until the transmission oil temperature exceeds 50°C to ensure the S017 switch circuit is active.

  2. Service the Filter

Drain the necessary fluid and remove the transmission oil filter. Clean the housing and install a new transmission oil filter.

  3. Test the System

Clear the fault codes and operate the tractor. If the fault code 04.1.50 does not return, the issue was simply a dirty filter.

  4. Test the Switch

If the filter is brand new and the code immediately returns, use a multimeter to test the S017 filter contamination switch for proper resistance and verify the 8.5V supply/ground at the connector.

  5. Replace the Switch

If the switch fails the continuity/plausibility test (e.g., reading closed when there is no pressure differential), replace the S017 switch.
