04.1.53

Fendt 04.1.53 – Transmission Control System: B009 - Discharge temperature sensor

Issue description

Transmission oil temperature more than 110°C. This code is triggered when the B009 temperature sensor detects that the oil in the transmission's high-pressure hydrostatic circuit has overheated.

Applies to these machines

  • 309 Vario COM III
  • 310 Vario COM III
  • 311 Vario COM III
  • 312 Vario COM III
  • 922 Vario COM III
  • 924 Vario COM III
  • 927 Vario COM III
  • 930 Vario COM III
  • 933 Vario COM III
  • 936 Vario COM III
  • 300 Vario
  • 400 Vario
  • 700 Vario
  • 800 Vario
  • 900 Vario

Check the cause

  1. Halt operation immediately to prevent catastrophic damage to the hydrostatic pump and motor.

  2. Check oil condition by pulling the transmission dipstick; if the oil smells burnt or acrid, it has genuinely overheated.

  3. Monitor live data using the Variotronic Ti diagnostics terminal (Terminal A008) for 'Temperature sensor discharge B009'. If the tractor has been sitting overnight and reads >110°C, the sensor or wiring is defective.

  4. Inspect the transmission oil cooler for heavy soiling or blockages.

  5. Check for concurrent fault codes like 04.1.58 (Transmission slip monitor), which indicates the transmission is slipping and generating excess heat.

Repair steps

  1. Reduce load

If the overheating was caused by prolonged heavy traction work, reduce the load by switching to a lower driving mode (Mode I).

  2. Increase engine speed

Increase engine speed above 1400 rpm to improve cooling efficiency and avoid unnecessary clutch pedal depression.

  3. Clean oil cooler

Thoroughly clean the transmission oil cooler.

  4. Drain oil and replace filter

If the oil smells burnt, do not just top it up. Drain the transmission oil completely and replace the transmission oil filter.

  5. Refill transmission fluid

Refill with the approved fluid (e.g., Fendt Extra Trans 10W-40 or STOU oil, viscosity SAE 10W-40 or 15W-40).

  6. Locate sensor

Locate the B009 Discharge Temperature Sensor on the transmission high-pressure circuit block.

  7. Inspect and repair wiring

Inspect the wiring harness and connector for chafing, melting, or corrosion. Repair any damaged wiring.

  8. Replace sensor

If the wiring is intact but the live data reading is implausible, replace the B009 thermo switch/sensor.

  9. Clear codes and test drive

Clear the fault codes via the Variotronic terminal and test drive the tractor while monitoring the live temperature data.
