Fendt 04.1.56 – Transmission Control System (Transmission TCU): S017 - Switch, transmission oil contamination

Sensor faulty, Signal line fault. The control unit has detected an electrical issue (such as an open circuit, short circuit, or a failed internal contact) in the switch that monitors the transmission oil filter for clogging/contamination.

   Check Oil Temperature: Ensure the tractor is warmed up to operating temperature, as the S017 switch function is inactive when the transmission oil temperature is below 50°C.

   Inspect Connector X228: Disconnect the separation point/connector for the S017 switch (X228) and check for corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins.

   Test the Signal Line: Use a multimeter to check the wiring harness between connector X228 and the Transmission ECU for continuity, shorts to ground, or open circuits.

   Test the Switch: Test the S017 switch itself for proper resistance/continuity to determine if the sensor has failed internally.

   Locate the S017 transmission oil contamination switch on the transmission housing (typically located near the transmission suction/pressure filter block).

   Thoroughly clean the area around the switch to prevent dirt from entering the transmission hydraulic circuit.

   Disconnect the X228 electrical connector from the switch.

   If the wiring harness is damaged, splice in a repair pigtail or replace the affected cable section.

   If the switch is faulty, place a drain pan underneath to catch any residual transmission fluid (STOU 10W-40 or Extra Trans), and unscrew the S017 switch.

   Install the new genuine Fendt S017 switch and tighten to OEM torque specifications.

   Reconnect the X228 electrical connector.

   Start the tractor and bring the transmission oil temperature above 50°C to verify that the fault code clears and the system monitors the filter correctly.
