04.1.87

Fendt 04.1.87 – Transmission Control system: S061 - Switch, rapid reverse on the steering wheel adjustment

Issue description

A plausibility error at the Forward/Reverse (F/R) rapid reverse switch. The system detects that the electrical signals coming from the switch do not match logically, rendering the rapid reverse function on the steering wheel adjustment lever inoperable.

Applies to these machines

  • 309 Vario COM III
  • 310 Vario COM III
  • 311 Vario COM III
  • 312 Vario COM III
  • Fendt 300 Vario (COM III)
  • Fendt 400 Vario (COM III)
  • Fendt 700 Vario (COM III)
  • Fendt 800 Vario (COM III)
  • Fendt 900 Vario (COM III) (e.g., 916, 922, 924, 927, 930, 933, 936)

Check the cause

  1. Check the S061 rapid reverse switch (located on the steering wheel adjustment lever) for physical damage, sticking, or debris.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connector X1040 for the S061 switch. Look for loose pins, corrosion, or wire chafing in the steering column area.

  3. Connect the FENDIAS diagnostic tool to monitor the live state of the Forward/Reverse switch to confirm if the signal is dropping out or stuck in one state.

  4. Refer to the Fendt workshop manual Chapter 9000 Reg. E (Transmission manual control) for specific pin-out testing of the rapid reverse circuit.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Switch

Remove the plastic cowling/covers surrounding the steering column to expose the steering wheel adjustment lever mechanism.

  3. Disconnect Wiring

Locate the S061 switch on the adjustment lever and carefully unplug electrical connector X1040.

  4. Remove the Faulty Switch

Unbolt or unclip the S061 switch from its mounting point on the steering column assembly.

  5. Install the New Part

Mount the replacement switch into the factory position and securely reconnect the X1040 wiring harness.

  6. Reassembly

    Reinstall the steering column covers.

  7. Testing

Reconnect the battery, turn on the tractor, and test the rapid reverse function. Use the FENDIAS system to clear the 04.1.87 fault code and verify it does not return.
