Fendt 04.1.94 – ECU: CAN Communication Fault MFA to ECU
Issue description
Fault code 04.1.94 indicates a faulty CAN communication between the A050 Basic Control Unit (E-box) and the A039 Multifunction Armrest (CAN joystick). The basic control unit is no longer receiving valid data signals from the joystick over the CAN bus network, which typically results in limited operation of the hydraulic valves and transmission controls, although emergency mode operation is usually possible.

Check the cause
Verify if the tractor can continue to be driven in emergency mode by checking for smooth adjustment action.
Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness and connectors between the A039 Multifunction Armrest and the A050 Basic Control Unit for physical damage, corrosion, or loose pins.
Use FENDIAS diagnostic software to check for related fault codes, such as other CAN bus errors or specific joystick signal faults like A.1.B1 or A.1.C9.
Use a 160-pin adapter box to test the inputs and outputs of the A039 and A050 modules to isolate whether the fault is in the wiring, the joystick hardware, or the basic control unit.
Repair steps
Disconnect power
Disconnect the battery power before working on the tractor's electrical system.
Access components
Gain access to the A039 Multifunction Armrest and the A050 Basic Control Unit (E-box).
Inspect connectors
Disconnect the CAN bus connectors at both ends. Inspect for pushed-out pins, moisture, or corrosion. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner if necessary.
Test the harness
Perform a continuity test on the CAN High and CAN Low wires between the MFA and the E-box. Repair or replace the wiring harness if an open circuit, high resistance, or short to ground is found.
Test with known-good joystick
If the wiring is intact, swap the joystick with a known-good unit to see if the fault clears. If it does, replace the A039 Multifunction Armrest or the internal CAN joystick component.
Repair or replace ECU
If the fault persists after testing the joystick, the A050 Basic Control Unit is likely defective. Send the unit to a specialized repair service or replace it entirely.
Perform EOL programming
If replacing the A050 ECU, perform EOL (End of Line) programming using FENDIAS to configure the new module to the tractor.
Verify repair
Clear the fault codes and test the joystick functions, including valves and transmission control, to verify the repair.
