Fendt 04.1.A1 – A050 Basic Control ECU: A009 - Actuator unit: Turn angle is not reached within 2 seconds.
Issue description
The basic control ECU commanded a ratio change, but the actuator failed to reach the target angle within the 2-second time limit. This typically points to either a mechanical binding of the transmission adjustment shaft or a failure within the A009 actuator unit itself.

Check the cause
Check the mechanical adjustment action for binding.
Perform an emergency mode test (on standard Vario models): engage the mechanical emergency mode using the auxiliary lever and verify if the transmission actuator shaft can be moved smoothly by hand. If it binds, the issue is internal to the transmission (hydrostatic unit/shaft). If it moves smoothly, the A009 actuator unit is the culprit.
Observe initialization: switch the ignition ON and listen for abnormal grinding or stalling from the actuator as it searches for its reference point.
Verify electrical and CAN connections: ensure the X037 separation point at the actuator is clean and tight, and check the 8.5V/12V power supplies and CAN bus terminating resistors on the A013 circuit board.
Repair steps
Park and prepare tractor
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and disconnect the battery.
Access the Actuator
The A009 unit is located on the right side of the transmission housing. On most medium and large frame tractors, remove the right rear wheel and the protective metal panel to gain access.
Disconnect Wiring
Disconnect the electrical harness at the X037 separation point on the actuator unit.
Remove the Actuator
Unbolt the A009 actuator unit from the side of the transmission block and carefully pull it straight out to disengage it from the actuator shaft.
Inspect
Check the splines on the transmission's actuator shaft for wear or damage.
Install the New Unit
Mount the new A009 actuator unit, ensuring the splines align correctly. Torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.
Reassembly
Reconnect the X037 electrical connector, reinstall the protective metal panel, and remount the right rear wheel.
Calibration
Reconnect the battery. You must use the FENDIAS diagnostic tool to perform an End-of-Line (EOL) programming/calibration to allow the A050 Basic Control ECU to learn the new actuator's reference points and travel limits.
