04.1.B5

Fendt 04.1.B5 – A050 - ECU, Basic Control Unit: Checksum error rate parameters, quick reverse for Tractor Management System (TMS)

Issue description

The mathematical checksum validation for the stored parameters governing the tractor's rapid reversing behavior has failed. The data in the module's memory (EEPROM) has become corrupted or is being read incorrectly, causing the Tractor Management System (TMS) to be automatically switched off.

Applies to these machines

  • 922 Vario COM III
  • 924 Vario COM III
  • 927 Vario COM III
  • 930 Vario COM III
  • 933 Vario COM III
  • 936 Vario COM III
  • 300 Vario series
  • 700 Vario series
  • 900 Vario series

Check the cause

  1. Confirm the active code is 04.1.B5 and verify that the TMS has been disabled using the tractor's terminal display.

  2. Verify the power supply (+UB) and ground connections to the A050 Basic Control Unit, as voltage spikes or low battery voltage during cranking can cause temporary EEPROM checksum errors.

  3. Scan for companion CAN bus or initialization errors (such as 04.1.B0 or 04.1.CF) which might indicate a broader communication failure or a completely failed basic operating system within the A050 ECU.

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic interface

Connect the FENDIAS diagnostic interface to the tractor's diagnostic port.

  2. Establish communication

Establish communication with the A050 Basic Control Unit.

  3. Perform EOL programming

Perform an EOL (End of Line) programming procedure to re-flash the module and rewrite the correct factory parameters (including the rapid reverse ramp parameters) to the ECU's memory.

  4. Clear fault codes

    Clear the stored fault codes.

  5. Perform test drive

Perform a test drive, specifically testing the quick reverse function and ensuring the TMS remains active.

  6. Replace or repair ECU

If the EOL programming fails to write, or if the 04.1.B5 code immediately returns after a power cycle, the EEPROM inside the A050 Basic Control Unit is physically defective. The unit must be removed and either sent to a specialized agricultural electronics repairer or replaced entirely.
