04.1.E4

Fendt 04.1.E4 – A050 - ECU, basic control unit: Checksum error, electronic cardan brake parameters.

Issue description

The basic control unit has detected an internal memory/checksum error specifically related to the stored parameters for the electronic cardan brake.

Applies to these machines

Check the cause

  1. Check for other A050 checksum errors (such as 04.1.E5 for range control or 04.1.E6 for load limit parameters). Multiple checksum errors often point to a broader internal failure of the ECU's EEPROM or a severe voltage drop event.

  2. Verify the tractor's battery and charging system are providing stable voltage, as low voltage during operation or startup can corrupt memory parameters and trigger checksum faults.

  3. Connect the Fendt FENDIAS diagnostic tool to confirm the code is active and to prepare for reprogramming.

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic laptop

Connect the FENDIAS diagnostic laptop to the tractor's diagnostic port.

  2. Navigate to module

Navigate to the A050 Basic Control Unit module.

  3. Initiate EOL programming

Initiate the EOL programming procedure to re-flash the ECU and rewrite the correct electronic cardan brake parameters.

  4. Clear codes and cycle key

Clear the fault codes and cycle the key.

  5. Test tractor

Test the tractor to ensure the 04.1.E4 code does not return.

  6. Replace ECU if necessary

If the EOL programming fails to take, or if the checksum error returns immediately after a key cycle, the A050 ECU has suffered a hard internal memory failure and must be physically replaced and then programmed to the tractor.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • A050 - ECU, basic control unit (32-bit processor)

Specific OEM part numbers vary heavily by exact chassis serial number. If replacing the A050 ECU, the new module will be blank and will require complete EOL programming and immobilizer transponder pairing (A077) via FENDIAS before the tractor will operate.
