Fendt 06.1.42 – Enhanced Control ECU (A002): Right external "Rear PTO ON / OFF" pushbutton (S020) pressed continuously for more than 30 seconds
Issue description
The system logs this code when it detects that the S020 right external "Rear PTO ON / OFF" pushbutton has been pressed continuously for more than 30 seconds. This indicates either a mechanical fault (jammed/stuck button) or an electrical fault (short circuit), which disables PTO speed preselection and prevents normal rear PTO engagement.

Check the cause
Inspect the S020 button on the rear right fender to see if it is physically stuck in the depressed position due to dirt, debris, or physical damage.
Access the back of the switch and inspect the wiring harness and the AMP Superseal connector for chafed wires, moisture ingress, or exposed copper that could be causing a short circuit to ground.
Disconnect the switch and use a multimeter to test it for continuity. The switch should only show continuity when actively pressed; if it shows a closed circuit while resting, the internal contacts have failed.
Repair steps
Turn off tractor and disconnect battery
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during the repair.
Locate faulty switch
Locate the faulty S020 external PTO switch on the rear right fender.
Disconnect electrical plug
Reach behind the fender panel and disconnect the electrical plug (typically a 3-pin AMP Superseal connector) from the switch.
Remove faulty switch
Remove the retaining nut/clips holding the switch in place and pull the faulty switch out of the 30mm mounting hole.
Insert new switch
Insert the new replacement switch into the fender and secure it.
Reconnect electrical plug
Reconnect the electrical plug, ensuring the weather seal is seated correctly to prevent future moisture ingress.
Reconnect battery
Reconnect the battery.
Clear codes and test
Turn the ignition on, clear any stored fault codes via the Varioterminal, and test the external button to ensure the PTO engages and disengages properly.
