Fendt 08.1.26 – Rear EPC (Electrohydraulic lifting gear control) ECU: S048 - Switch, EPC lock short circuit to ground
Issue description
The system has detected a short circuit to ground on the switch circuit, or the switch is faulty. The Electrohydraulic lifting gear control (EPC) is barred/locked. The rear power lift automatic functions will not operate, and the EPC lock indicator LED on the control panel will remain lit.

Check the cause
Locate the S048 EPC lock switch at the rear of the tractor near the rigid drawbar/hitch area.
Inspect separation point connector X148 for moisture, corrosion, or backed-out pins.
Using a multimeter, test the wiring harness between connector X148 and the Rear EPC control unit for a short to ground (e.g., wire rubbed through against the chassis).
Test the S048 switch itself for internal continuity faults to determine if the switch has failed internally.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor ignition and engage the parking brake.
Access the Component
Navigate to the rear of the tractor and locate the S048 EPC lock switch on the drawbar/linkage assembly.
Disconnect
Unplug the switch at connector X148.
Repair Wiring (If Applicable)
If your multimeter tests in the diagnostic phase revealed a short to ground in the harness, trace the wire back to the EPC module, repair the chafed/damaged section of the wire, and apply heat-shrink tubing.
Replace Switch (If Applicable)
If the wiring is intact but the switch failed the continuity test, unbolt the faulty S048 switch from its mounting bracket and install the new replacement switch.
Reconnect and Clear
Plug connector X148 back in. Turn on the ignition and use the tractor's terminal (or FENDIAS/SERDIA diagnostic software) to confirm and delete the stored fault code.
Verify Operation
Ensure the red EPC lock indicator LED on the cab control panel turns off and that the rear linkage responds to lifting/lowering commands.
