Fendt 08.1.A1 – ECU, EPC B: Checksum incorrect / EEPROM error when reading
Issue description
Internal memory processing error where the control unit's stored data does not match the expected checksum values, meaning the module's programming has become corrupted or the internal EEPROM chip is failing.
Applies to these machines
9 machines- 309 Vario COM III
- 310 Vario COM III
- 311 Vario COM III
- 312 Vario COM III
- 300 Vario series
- 400 Vario series
- 700 Vario series
- 800 Vario series
- 900 Vario series
Check the cause
Verify the electronics voltage supply (power and ground) to the EPC B module to ensure memory corruption wasn't caused by a voltage spike or drop.
Check for accompanying CAN bus communication errors (such as 00.0.08 A024 or 00.0.16 A024) which would indicate a physical wiring or CAN bus interruption to the rear EPC.
Attempt a cold start by cycling the tractor's ignition off and back on to see if the RAM/EEPROM test passes on a fresh boot.
Repair steps
Connect diagnostic tool
Connect the Fendt diagnostic interface (FENDIAS / SERDIA) to the tractor.
Perform EOL programming
Perform an EOL (End of Line) reprogramming of the ECU, EPC B to re-flash the corrupted EEPROM memory.
Recalibrate sensors
If the EOL programming is successful, recalibrate the rear power lift sensors using calibration code 8002 for the position sensor and 8001 for the setpoint rotary switch.
Replace ECU
If the EOL programming fails, or if the 08.1.A1 checksum error immediately returns, the physical EEPROM chip inside the ECU has failed. The ECU, EPC B must be replaced.
Program new ECU
Install the replacement module and perform EOL programming and calibration to marry it to the tractor.
