Fendt 08.1.C0 – A050 ECU (Basic Control Unit): A039 - MFA, multifunction armrest (MFA not fitted)
Issue description
This fault code indicates a communication failure where the tractor's system cannot detect the A039 Multifunction Armrest (MFA) on the CAN bus. Because the system thinks the armrest is 'not fitted,' automatic modes (like auto rear power lift or Tractor Management System/TMS) are disabled, and the affected systems can only be operated via external buttons.
Applies to these machines
11 machines- 922 Vario COM III
- 924 Vario COM III
- 927 Vario COM III
- 930 Vario COM III
- 933 Vario COM III
- 936 Vario COM III
- Fendt 300 Vario (COM III)
- Fendt 400 Vario (COM III)
- Fendt 700 Vario (COM III & SCR)
- Fendt 800 Vario (COM III & SCR)
- Fendt 900 Vario (COM III & SCR) (Models 916, 920, 922, 924, 926, 927, 930, 933, 936)
Check the cause
Check the wiring harness and connectors between the A039 multifunction armrest and the main tractor bus / A050 ECU for corrosion, backed-out pins, or physical damage.
Verify that the armrest is receiving proper voltage and ground.
Test the CAN bus communication lines to the armrest (a 160-pin adapter box is recommended to isolate electrical faults).
Verify via FENDIAS diagnostic software if the EOL (End of Line) programming has dropped the configuration, as a bus fault can prevent EOL from reporting.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Access the Armrest Wiring
Remove the protective covers under the right-hand driver's seat console to access the A039 MFA wiring harness.
Repair Wiring
If diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or faulty connector on the CAN lines, repair the harness and clear the codes.
Replace the MFA
If the wiring is intact and the armrest has suffered an internal hardware failure (e.g., faulty RAM/flash memory), unbolt the armrest console from the seat frame (typically a Grammer seat base) and disconnect the main harness. Install the new multifunction armrest.
EOL Programming
Once the new armrest is installed, connect the FENDIAS diagnostic tool. You must perform EOL (End of Line) programming and calibrate the armrest components (like the joystick and potentiometers) so the A050 ECU recognizes the new module.
Parts you might need
(2)A039 Multifunction Armrest (MFA) / Right-hand Control Console
Exact part numbers depend heavily on the tractor's trim level (e.g., Power vs. Profi equipment) and seat type. Ensure you order the correct armrest configuration.
Grammer Right Console
1346896Right console for Fendt SCR + SC4 multifunction armrest mounted to Grammer MSG 95 series seats.
