Fendt 0A.1.XF – A050 Basic Control Unit ECU: Communication or configuration error with auxiliary control valve (spool valve) on CAN bus
Issue description
Indicates a communication or configuration error with one of the auxiliary control valves (spool valves) on the CAN bus. The 'X' in the code corresponds to the specific valve number. Specifically, the code means: 'No setpoint message, no configuration message, setpoint message not plausible, or configuration message not plausible'. It can also point to a potentiometer/pulse-width (PW) error within the valve's internal electronics. As a safety measure, the affected valve will automatically move to the neutral position and lock, and the pilot pressure will be turned OFF.

Check the cause
Identify the Valve: Use the 'X' digit in the fault code to pinpoint the exact valve (e.g., Position 1 Yellow, Position 2 Blue).
Wiring & Connector Inspection: Check the wiring harness and the electrical connector at the affected spool valve. Look for broken wires, corrosion, or pushed-out pins.
CAN Bus & Power Check: Verify that the valve is receiving proper operating voltage (undervoltage < 8V can cause valve lockouts) and that the CAN High and CAN Low signals are present at the valve connector.
Mechanical Jamming: Ensure the valve actuator is not mechanically jammed due to contamination in the hydraulic fluid, which can sometimes trigger secondary position errors.
Repair steps
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the rear auxiliary valve block area to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Relieve Pressure
Turn off the tractor and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed a wiring fault on the CAN bus or power supply lines to the valve, repair the harness and clear the codes.
Replace the Valve
If the wiring is intact, the valve's internal potentiometer or CAN module has failed. Disconnect the electrical connector and hydraulic lines from the affected spool valve. Unbolt the valve section from the manifold block and install the new unit.
Calibration
After replacing a spool valve, the new sensor/valve must be calibrated to the A050 ECU using the FENDIAS (Serdia) diagnostic software to ensure the setpoint messages are recognized.
