Fendt 0B.1.22 – A050 - ECU, basic control unit: A050 - ECU, basic control unit; A054 - Terminal TEACH-IN: Communication error between terminal and TEACH-IN
Issue description
CAN bus communication failure between the tractor's basic control unit (A050) and the Varioterminal (A054/A073). This disrupts the TEACH-IN headland management system, rendering automated headland sequences non-operational.

Check the cause
Check for Accompanying Codes: Look for other CAN bus fault codes (such as 0B.1.23 for the A039 Multifunction Armrest). If multiple modules are failing to communicate with the A050 ECU, the issue is likely a central CAN bus short/break or a failed A050 ECU.
Inspect Wiring and Connectors: Physically inspect the wiring harness running from the A050 ECU to the A054/A073 Terminal. Look for chafed wires, pinched harnesses in the cab routing, or loose/corroded connector pins.
Test CAN Bus Integrity: Use a multimeter to check the CAN High and CAN Low resistance and voltage levels between the A050 ECU and the terminal to ensure the network is intact.
Verify Terminal Configuration: Ensure the terminal is properly recognized by the system. If the terminal was recently replaced or the battery died, it may require EOL (End of Line) programming to re-initialize the TEACH-IN communication.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during harness repair.
Clean and Reseat Connectors
Disconnect the plugs at both the A050 ECU and the A054 Terminal. Apply electrical contact cleaner, ensure no pins are pushed back, and firmly reseat the connections.
Repair Harness
If the diagnostic checks revealed a break or short in the CAN wiring between the ECU and the terminal, splice and repair the damaged section using OEM-grade CAN bus repair wire (maintaining the wire twist).
Software / EOL Programming
If the wiring is sound, connect the FENDIAS diagnostic tool. Attempt to re-flash or perform EOL programming on the A050 ECU to restore the TEACH-IN initialization.
Replace the A050 ECU
If the A050 ECU has suffered an internal hardware failure (a common issue where the CAN transceiver chip fails), the unit must be removed and sent to a specialized agricultural electronics repair facility or replaced entirely.
Clear Fault Codes
Clear fault codes stored in the A050 ECU using the FENDIAS diagnostic software, as they cannot be cleared via the terminal buttons.
