Fendt 1.1.05 – EDC / EMR control unit: Engine configuration could not be read from the EDC / EMR - control unit

Issue description

The tractor's main management system is unable to retrieve the necessary engine parameters or checksum data from the electrical engine control module. As a direct consequence of this missing configuration data, the Tractor Management System (TMS) is disengaged or rendered not operational.

Check the cause

  1. Check CAN Bus Communication: Verify the communication lines between the tractor's main control unit and the EDC/EMR engine control module. Look for concurrent bus faults (such as code 0.0.11) which indicate a physical wiring or connector issue.

  2. Inspect Wiring and Connectors: Check the 'EDC Engine control' and 'EMR Engine control' circuit diagrams. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors at the EDC (A021) / EMR (A022) control module for line discontinuities, corrosion, or loose pins.

  3. Check Power Supply: Verify the voltage supply to the EDC/EMR control unit to ensure it is powering up correctly.

  4. Diagnostic Tool Connection: Connect the FENDIAS diagnostic tool to see if the ECU can be communicated with or if it has suffered an internal processing error.

Repair steps

  1. Connect Diagnostic Equipment

    Hook up the FENDIAS diagnostic system to the tractor.

  2. Repair Wiring (if applicable)

    If diagnostic checks revealed a line discontinuity or damaged connector at the EDC/EMR module, repair the wiring harness to restore communication.

  3. Perform EOL Reprogramming

    If the wiring is intact but the configuration is missing, corrupted, or has a checksum error, the official Fendt remedy is to perform an EOL (End-of-Line) reprogramming of the EDC/EMR control unit to reload the engine configuration data.

  4. Replace the ECU

    If EOL programming fails, or if the ECU has an internal hardware failure and cannot accept the new data record, the EDC/EMR control module must be replaced.

  5. Clear Codes and Test

    After reprogramming or replacement, clear the fault codes and verify that the Tractor Management System (TMS) successfully re-engages.
