Fendt 1.2.02 – EMR / EDC (Engine Control Unit): B042 - Sensor, EMR (crankshaft) — Signal error, gap to flywheel too wide, cable connection broken

The engine control system is not receiving a valid signal from the crankshaft position/speed sensor (B042). The underlying condition is typically a physical issue where the air gap between the sensor and the flywheel gear rim is too wide, or there is an electrical fault such as a broken cable or wiring connection.

   Inspect the physical mounting of the B042 crankshaft sensor to ensure it is secure and the gap to the flywheel is not too wide

   Clean away any debris, dirt, or rust that might be interfering with the sensor's seating

   Inspect the sensor's wiring harness and connector for any breaks, corrosion, or short circuits

   Connect the SERDIA diagnostic tool to read active and stored fault codes and confirm if the B041 camshaft sensor is functioning properly

   Refer to Chapter 2000 Reg. B - EMR troubleshooting plan in the Fendt service manual for specific electrical testing values

   Locate sensor

   Locate the B042 EMR crankshaft sensor on the engine block near the flywheel.

   Inspect and repair wiring

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor and inspect the pins for corrosion or damage. Repair the wiring harness if a break is found.

   Inspect and clean mounting area

   If the wiring is intact, remove the sensor and inspect the mounting area. Clean any dirt or rust that might be causing the sensor to sit too far from the flywheel.

   Reinstall or replace sensor

   Reinstall the sensor (or install a new one if the sensor itself has failed internally) ensuring it is seated correctly to maintain the proper air gap to the flywheel.

   Reconnect connector

   Reconnect the electrical connector.

   Connect diagnostic tool

   Connect the SERDIA diagnostic tool to the tractor.

   Clear fault code

   Clear the 1.2.02 fault code from the engine control unit memory.

   Verify repair

   Start the engine and verify that the fault code does not return and that the engine speed is being read correctly.
