Fendt 1.2.04 – EMR: B041, B042 - Sensor, EMR camshaft / crankshaft — Overspeed shutoff.
Issue description
This code indicates that the engine management system has detected an engine overspeed condition via the camshaft (B041) and/or crankshaft (B042) position sensors. As a protective measure, the system triggers an automatic engine shutoff. The tractor will subsequently be forced into 'Push' mode, and the diesel engine will die. This can be caused by a genuine overspeed event, a failing sensor providing erratic high-speed signals, an incorrect sensor gap, or damaged wiring.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harnesses for both the B041 (camshaft) and B042 (crankshaft) sensors for breaks, chafing, or short circuits.
Check the physical gap between the sensors and the camshaft sprocket/flywheel. A gap that is too wide will cause signal errors and dropouts.
Use an oscilloscope to check the peak-to-peak voltage and amplitude of the signals coming from the sensors. A weak or erratic signal can trick the EMR into reading an overspeed condition.
Check the EMR actuator (Y035) using the SERDIA (Deutz) diagnostic program.
Repair steps
Access the Sensors
Locate the B041 camshaft position sensor (near the camshaft sprocket) and the B042 crankshaft position sensor (near the flywheel).
Test and Adjust
If the wiring is intact but the signal is weak, adjust the sensor depth/gap to the manufacturer's specification.
Replace Faulty Components
If a sensor fails the oscilloscope test or has internal resistance failure, replace the faulty sensor(s). Note: If both sensors fail simultaneously, the engine will not run at all.
Check the Y035 Actuator
If the sensors are functioning perfectly, the fault may lie in the EMR actuator (Y035) failing to regulate fuel/speed properly. Replace if it fails the SERDIA diagnostic test.
Clear Codes
Connect the SERDIA diagnostic tool to the diagnostic connector (X412) to clear the fault memory and reset the EMR.
