Fendt 1.2.09 – A022 - ECU, EMR: B048 - Sensor, water temperature (EMR) — Signal out of range
Issue description
The engine coolant/water temperature sensor (designated as component B048) is sending a signal that falls outside the expected operating parameters (either too high or too low). The system uses this signal for engine management, the dashboard temperature display, and for activating the heater flange. When this code is triggered, the tractor may automatically reduce engine output to protect the engine.

Check the cause
Check the cooling system: Ensure the coolant level is correct and clean the radiator to rule out an actual overheating event triggering an extreme out-of-range reading.
Inspect the wiring harness: Check the 2-pin sensor cable connection at the B048 sensor. Look for broken wires, corrosion, or a loose connection.
Test the sensor: Use a multimeter or SERDIA diagnostics to verify if the sensor's resistance matches the specified temperature curve.
Repair steps
Safely Shut Down
Stop the engine and allow it to cool completely to avoid burns from hot coolant.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the B048 water temperature sensor on the engine block/thermostat housing.
Disconnect Wiring
Carefully unplug the 2-pin connector from the sensor.
Remove the Sensor
Unthread the faulty sensor. Have a catch pan ready, as some coolant will leak out during this process.
Install the New Sensor
Thread the new sensor into the housing (note: thread sizes vary by engine, commonly M14x1.5 or M10x1.5). Tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque.
Reconnect and Refill
Reconnect the 2-pin wiring harness. Top off the engine coolant to replace any that was lost.
Clear Codes
Start the engine, check for leaks, and use the tractor's diagnostic interface or SERDIA tool to clear the 1.2.09 fault code.
