Fendt 1.2.17 – EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): Engine speed too high

Engine RPM has exceeded its maximum safe threshold. In most cases, this is an operational condition caused by the tractor's momentum pushing the engine during a steep downhill descent.

   Verify operating conditions to determine if the code was triggered while driving downhill with a heavy implement (operational warning cause)

   If triggered under normal load or at idle (sensor fault cause), perform a plausibility check on the engine speed sensors for erratic speed curves

   Inspect the physical clearance between the engine speed sensor and the camshaft gear (OEM specification is 1.0 to 2.0 mm)

   Check the wiring harness and connectors between the engine speed sensors and the EDC control module A021 for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins.

   Operational Correction

   Reduce engine speed. Instruct the operator to adjust their driving habits, utilize the engine brake, or adjust the transmission ratio when descending hills.

   Sensor Replacement

   If diagnostics prove the sensor is failing, locate the engine speed sensor on the engine block, disconnect the electrical connector, remove the retaining bolt, and pull the sensor from its housing. Install the new OEM speed sensor, verifying the clearance between the sensor tip and the gear teeth is exactly 1.0 to 2.0 mm before tightening. Reconnect the wiring harness.

   Clear Codes

   Use an AGCO 2x4 CANUSB diagnostic scanner or the FENDIAS system to clear the stored 1.2.17 EDC fault from the module's history.
