1.2.2B

Fendt 1.2.2B – A002 / A021: CAN message fault from enhanced control module (A002) to EDC control module (A021), "Engine brake function"

Issue description

This fault indicates a CAN bus communication failure or interruption between the tractor's enhanced control module (EST) and the electronic diesel control (EDC) module specifically regarding the exhaust/engine brake function. As a direct consequence, the engine brake (exhaust brake) becomes non-operational.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the CAN-Bus voltage supply on fuse board A013. Check for any blown fuses that supply power to the A002 or A021 modules.

  2. Check the CAN-Bus wiring between the EST Control Module (A002) and the EDC Control Module (A021) for physical damage, broken wires, or a short circuit to earth.

  3. Connect a diagnostic adaptor box, turn the ignition to 'ON', and test the pin-to-pin continuity between the modules (e.g., checking the connection from A002 connector X031 to A021 connector X048).

  4. Consult the 'EDC engine control', 'Transmission bus', and 'Engine brake' circuit diagrams to trace the exact routing for your specific chassis number.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the CAN bus electrical system.

  2. Fuse Replacement

If any fuses on fuse board A013 are blown, replace them. If the fuse board itself is damaged, replace the board.

  3. Wiring Repair

Repair or replace any damaged sections of the CAN-Bus wiring harness between the A002 and A021 modules. Clean all connector pins to ensure a solid connection.

  4. Module Replacement

If the wiring and power supply are intact but the CAN communication remains interrupted, the A002 (EST) or A021 (EDC) module may have an internal failure. Replace the faulty module.

  5. Reprogramming

If a control module is replaced, End-of-Line (EOL) reprogramming will be necessary using FENDIAS or Serdia diagnostic software to load the correct tractor data record.

  6. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and clear the stored fault codes from the tractor's memory. Test the engine brake function to confirm the repair.
