Fendt 1.2.42 (MAN EDC) – MAN EDC (Electronic Diesel Control) module: Pump control unit (injection pump) (EDC) — Fuel temperature too high

The fuel temperature sensor detects that the fuel temperature is excessively high, or there is a failure in the temperature sensor itself. The system determines the sensor values are no longer plausible, automatically switches to a default substitution value of 75°C, and enters a restricted operating mode with reduced fuel flow and engine power.

   Verify actual fuel temperature to determine if the fuel is genuinely overheating (e.g., due to a fuel cooler blockage, restricted return lines, or low fuel levels) or if the sensor is reading incorrectly.

   Inspect the fuel temperature sensor on the injection pump and its wiring harness for shorts, breaks, or corrosion.

   Check the power supply (+UB) and ground connections to the injection pump control module.

   Access the EDC System

   Turn off the tractor and locate the injection pump and its attached pump control unit.

   Test the Sensor

   Test the fuel temperature sensor for proper resistance. If the sensor is sending implausible data (causing the ECU to default to 75°C), the sensor has failed.

   Replace the Sensor

   If the sensor is faulty, remove the old sensor, install the replacement, and torque to OEM specifications.

   Address Fuel System Restrictions

   If the sensor tests fine, inspect the fuel delivery and return system. Clean any debris from fuel coolers or radiators that might be causing the fuel to physically overheat.

   Injection Pump Repair

   If the wiring, sensor, and fuel temperatures are all normal, the fault lies within the Injection Pump Control Unit itself. The injection pump/control unit assembly will need to be repaired or replaced by a qualified diesel injection shop.

   Clear Codes

   After repairs, cycle the ignition. Use the FENDIAS diagnostic tool or the tractor's onboard terminal to confirm and delete the stored fault codes from the memory.
