Fendt 1.2.87 (MAN EDC) – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / MAN EDC: B027 - Water temperature sensor (EDC control) — Signal fault

This fault code indicates that the engine control module is receiving an erratic, out-of-range, or missing signal from the B027 engine coolant/water temperature sensor. This is typically caused by a failed sensor, a break in the wiring, or a short circuit. When this fault is active, the engine control system will enforce a "restricted power" (limp) mode to protect the engine from potential overheating damage.

   Visually inspect the B027 water temperature sensor, its electrical connector, and the wiring harness for visible damage, corrosion, or loose pins.

   Test the wiring harness for continuity, open circuits, or short circuits between the B027 sensor connector and the EDC control module.

   Measure the sensor's resistance with a multimeter to determine if it falls within the specified OEM range for the current engine temperature. An open or shorted reading indicates internal failure.

   Disconnect battery

   Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Disconnect sensor harness

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the B027 water temperature sensor.

   Repair wiring harness

   If wiring damage was found during diagnostics, repair or replace the affected harness section.

   Prepare for coolant drain

   If the sensor itself is faulty, place a drain pan under the sensor location to catch any escaping coolant.

   Remove old sensor

   Unscrew and remove the old B027 sensor from the engine.

   Install new sensor

   Install the new OEM water temperature sensor. Note: Do not overtighten the sensor, as it threads into aluminum and can strip the housing.

   Reconnect harness

   Reconnect the electrical harness to the new sensor.

   Top up coolant

   Top up the engine coolant to the proper level to replace any fluid lost during the swap.

   Clear fault code

   Turn the ignition ON and use the tractor's Vario terminal or SERDIA diagnostic software to clear the stored fault code.

    Verify repair

    Start the engine and verify that the temperature gauge climbs to the normal operating range and the fault code does not return.
