1.2.89

Fendt 1.2.89 – EDC Control Module (A021) / Pump Control Module (A020): A020 - Pump control unit (injection pump) — Electronic volume controller fault

Issue description

The EDC system has failed its auto-diagnostic check because the pump characteristic is not found. This indicates an internal electronic or mechanical failure of the volume controller within the Bosch VP44 injection pump, which will prevent the engine from starting.

Check the cause

  1. Wiring & Communication: Check the EDC control circuit diagram (Chapter 2000 Reg.B). Verify the power supply (+UB) and the CAN-bus communication lines between the EDC Control Module (A021) and the Pump Control Unit (A020).

  2. Fuel System Integrity: Check the primary fuel filter and the lift pump (supply pump). VP44 injection pumps are highly sensitive to dirty fuel and fuel starvation.

Repair steps

  1. Access fuel injection pump

Disconnect the battery and remove necessary engine covers to access the fuel injection pump.

  2. Disconnect wiring harnesses

Disconnect the CAN-bus and power wiring harnesses from the A020 Pump Control Unit.

  3. Remove and cap fuel lines

Remove the high-pressure fuel lines and cap them to prevent contamination.

  4. Remove injection pump

Remove the faulty Bosch VP44 injection pump.

  5. Drain fuel system and replace filter

Drain the fuel system and replace the primary fuel filter. It is also highly recommended to test or replace the lift pump, as a failing lift pump will quickly destroy the replacement VP44 pump.

  6. Install replacement injection pump

Install the replacement VP44 injection pump, ensuring proper engine timing alignment according to the Fendt/MAN workshop manual.

  7. Reconnect lines and connectors

Reconnect all fuel lines and electrical connectors.

  8. Bleed fuel system

Bleed the fuel system thoroughly before attempting to start the engine.

  9. Clear fault codes

Clear the EDC fault codes using a diagnostic tool.
