Fendt 1.2.96 – EDC Control Module (A021): A021 - Engine control module monitoring unit (EDC) — Fault in EDC control module monitoring unit
Issue description
This fault code indicates an internal failure within the monitoring circuit of the Electronic Diesel Control (EDC) module. To prevent uncontrolled engine operation, the system will trigger an emergency shutoff, resulting in the engine stopping or stalling.

Check the cause
Verify the main voltage supply (+Ub) and ground connections to the EDC Control Module (A021) to rule out severe voltage drops, bad grounds, or failing main relays.
Check the fuses supplying power to the EDC control module and the CAN-Bus fuse board (A013).
Inspect the CAN-Bus wiring and connections between the EST (Enhanced Control) module (A002) and the EDC Control Module (A021), specifically looking for continuity issues, shorts, or corrosion at connectors like X048.
Connect a dealer diagnostic tool (FENDIAS or SERDIA) to read the exact state of the EDC module. Clear the fault code and cycle the ignition. If the code returns immediately, it is a hard internal failure.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the ignition and disconnect the tractor's battery negative terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
Locate the EDC Module
Locate the EDC Control Module (A021), which is typically mounted near the engine block or in the main electronics bay.
Inspect Connectors
Carefully disconnect the wiring harness connectors (e.g., X047, X048) from the EDC module. Inspect the pins for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or moisture ingress. Clean with contact cleaner if necessary.
Replace Module
Remove the mounting hardware and extract the faulty EDC module. Mount the replacement EDC Control Module and securely reconnect the wiring harnesses.
EOL Programming
Reconnect the battery. Perform End-of-Line (EOL) reprogramming using FENDIAS/SERDIA dealer software to match the engine configuration and Tractor Management System (TMS) to your specific tractor model.
Parts you might need
(1)EDC Control Module (A021) / Engine Control Unit (ECU)
Varies by exact chassis number and engine. Requires dealer-level EOL (End-of-Line) programming after installation to function.
