Fendt 1.2.A6 – EDC Control Module (A021) / Pump Control Unit (A020): Engine stop, fault in signal processing in EDC control module
Issue description
A critical signal processing or communication failure involving the Electronic Diesel Control (EDC) system and the injection pump. This forces the tractor into a derated state, resulting in reduced engine speed, restricted power, or a complete engine stop to protect the powertrain.

Check the cause
Connect the FENDIAS diagnostic tool. Record the failure and ambient parameters, delete the failure memory, and re-test to see if the code actively returns.
Thoroughly check the wiring harness and connectors between the EDC Control Module (A021) and the Pump Control Unit (A020). Look for corrosion, backed-out pins, or chafed wires.
Check the power supply (+UB) to the EDC Control Module. Verify that the fuses supplying A021 are intact and providing proper voltage.
Check the CAN-Bus connection between the EST enhanced control module (A002) and the EDC control module (A021).
Utilize the "EDC Control" electrical circuit diagram in the Fendt service manual to trace the specific pinouts for your exact chassis number.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Always disconnect the battery before servicing the EDC system or unplugging ECU connectors.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks reveal high resistance, shorts, or broken wires between A021 and A020, repair the wiring harness or replace the damaged connector terminals.
Module Replacement
If the wiring, fuses, and CAN-Bus connections are all verified as good but the signal processing fault persists, the EDC Control Module (A021) has failed internally and must be replaced.
Installation
Mount the new EDC Control Module and securely reconnect the X047/X048 connectors.
EOL Reprogramming
A new EDC Control Module will trigger an EOL (End of Line) programming error (such as code 1.1.A0) until it is calibrated. You must use FENDIAS or Serdia diagnostic software to perform EOL reprogramming, ensuring the correct tractor type and engine parameters are flashed to the new module.
Final Testing
Clear all stored fault codes and test run the tractor under load to ensure full power is restored and the engine does not stall.
Parts you might need
(2)EDC Control Module (A021)
OEM part numbers vary strictly by the specific tractor model, chassis break, and engine (e.g., MAN vs. Deutz). You will need to order the specific EDC box matching your VIN.
Pump Control Unit / Electronic Injection Pump (A020)
VP44The pump control unit is typically integrated into the top of the injection pump.
