1.2.A9

Fendt 1.2.A9 – EDC (Electronic Diesel Control) Control Module (A021): Pump control unit (injection pump) (EDC) — Fault identified during self-diagnostic test.

Issue description

The system has detected an internal failure (RAM fault or auto-diagnostic failure) within the injection pump's integrated control unit during its self-test, causing the engine to experience reduced power, stall, or fail to start.

Check the cause

  1. Verify power supply and voltage monitoring within the EDC control module to rule out voltage drops triggering false internal pump faults

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the EDC Control Module (A021) and the Pump Control Unit (A020) for breaks or corrosion, focusing on the EDC Control circuit

  3. Verify fuel supply, primary pressure, and interior pressure of the pump

  4. Check fuel temperature to ensure the system is not overheating, which can cause the pump control unit to malfunction

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Relieve all hydraulic and fuel system pressure. Disconnect the battery.

  2. Clear Access

Drain necessary fluids. Remove obstructing components to access the left side of the engine where the A020 VP44 pump is located (this often requires removing the fuel tank, battery box, and surrounding brackets/hoses).

  3. Removal

Disconnect the electrical harness to the A020 control unit. Loosen the mounting bolts and high-pressure fuel lines, then carefully detach the injection pump from the engine.

  4. Installation

Install the new or remanufactured VP44 pump. Reattach all high-pressure lines and the electrical harness.

  5. Reassembly

Reinstall the fuel tank, battery, and brackets. Refill all drained fluids.

  6. Calibration

The new pump may require EOL (End of Line) programming or calibration via the FENDIAS diagnostic tool to sync with the A021 EDC control module.
