1.2.B6

Fendt 1.2.B6 – A051 - ECU, engine control unit (EDC 7): A051 - ECU, engine control unit (EDC 7) - CAN-message missing

Issue description

Communication failure on the tractor's Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. Specifically, expected data packets from or to the engine control unit are dropping out or not being received by the rest of the tractor's management system.

Applies to these machines

  • 412 Vario COM III
  • 413 Vario COM III
  • 414 Vario COM III
  • 415 Vario COM III
  • 712 Vario COM III
  • 714 Vario COM III
  • 716 Vario COM III
  • 718 Vario COM III
  • 818 Vario COM III
  • 820 Vario COM III
  • FENDT 300 Vario (COM III)
  • FENDT 400 Vario (COM III)

  • FENDT 800 Vario (COM III)
  • FENDT 900 Vario (COM III)

Check the cause

  1. Connect the Fendt SERDIA diagnostic software to verify the active fault code (Internal FC:0075).

  2. Consult the OEM electrical wiring diagram (specifically Sheet 36, which governs this circuit).

  3. Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness leading to the A051 ECU for physical damage, chafing, or corrosion. Pay special attention to the communication lines between the A002 (ECU, enhanced control) and the A051 (Engine ECU).

  4. Disconnect the EDC 7 harness and check for bent, pushed-back, or corroded pins at the ECU connector.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Always disconnect the battery before performing electrical repairs on the CAN bus or ECU.

  2. Repair Wiring

If a break or short is found in the CAN lines (per Sheet 36), repair the wiring harness using appropriate weatherproof splices.

  3. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use the SERDIA diagnostic tool to delete the error code (FC:0075).

  4. ECU Repair/Replacement

If the wiring is completely intact and the code immediately returns, the A051 ECU (EDC 7) has likely suffered an internal hardware/software failure. The unit must be sent to an agricultural electronics specialist for repair, or replaced entirely.

  5. Reprogramming

If a new or remanufactured ECU is installed, it will not be plug-and-play. It requires EOL (End of Line) programming via SERDIA to flash the correct engine parameters and sync the unit with the tractor's immobilizer and A050 basic control unit.

Parts you might need

(7)
  • Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC 7 Module
