1.2.B9

Fendt 1.2.B9 – EDC (Electronic Diesel Control) module: Pump control unit (injection pump) (EDC) — Fault during injection pump self-diagnostic test (RAM fault)

Issue description

The internal Random Access Memory (RAM) within the injection pump's control unit has failed its automated self-diagnostic check. Because the control unit cannot reliably process fuel delivery data, the engine control system will intervene, resulting in the engine stopping or failing to start.

Check the cause

  1. Verify the battery voltage, power supply, and fuses for the CAN bus circuit board and EDC control module to rule out transient voltage spikes.

  2. Inspect the wiring continuity and connectors between the Pump Control Module (A020) and the EDC Control Module (A021).

  3. Connect the FENDIAS diagnostic tool, record the failure and ambient parameters, delete the failure code memory, cycle the ignition/engine, and check if the code returns.

Repair steps

  1. Clear fault code memory

Connect the FENDIAS diagnostic tool and clear the fault code memory.

  2. Trigger self-diagnostic test

Attempt to start the engine to trigger the pump's self-diagnostic test.

  3. Verify failure

If the failure persists and no external wiring/voltage issues are identified, the pump control unit (A020) has failed.

  4. Replace injection pump assembly

Because the A020 control unit is integrated into the Bosch VP44 injection pump, the standard repair is to replace the entire injection pump assembly.

  5. Dismount old pump

Dismount the old fuel injection pump (VP44) according to the mechanical timing procedures in the workshop manual.

  6. Mount replacement pump

Mount the replacement VP44 injection pump, ensuring the start of delivery timing is correctly set.

  7. Bleed fuel system and verify

Bleed the fuel system and use FENDIAS to clear any remaining codes and verify operation.
