1.2.BB

Fendt 1.2.BB – A051 - ECU, engine control unit (EDC 7): CAN-message missing

Issue description

The tractor's CAN bus network has lost communication with the engine control unit, or expected data packets from the engine controller are not being received by the rest of the tractor's network.

Applies to these machines

  • 411 Vario COM III
  • 412 Vario COM III
  • 413 Vario COM III
  • 414 Vario COM III
  • 415 Vario COM III
  • 712 Vario COM III
  • 714 Vario COM III
  • 716 Vario COM III
  • 718 Vario COM III
  • 818 Vario COM III
  • 820 Vario COM III
  • FENDT 300 Vario (COM III)
  • FENDT 400 Vario (COM III)
  • FENDT 700 Vario (COM III)
  • FENDT 800 Vario (COM III)
  • FENDT 900 Vario (COM III)

Check the cause

  1. Locate the A051 ECU (e.g., at the right entrance step, behind the battery case on 300 Vario models)

  2. Inspect connectors X1466, X1671, and X1672 on the A051 ECU for corrosion, moisture, or loose pins

  3. Test the CAN bus lines between the A051 engine control unit and the A002 enhanced control ECU for continuity, shorts to ground, or shorts to power (refer to Wiring diagram Sheet 36)

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect the battery

Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Access the A051 Engine Control Unit

Access the A051 Engine Control Unit (EDC 7).

  3. Repair wiring or pins

Repair any broken wires or damaged connector pins found during the diagnostic checks on the CAN bus wiring harness.

  4. Reconnect the battery

Reconnect the battery and turn the ignition on.

  5. Connect diagnostic tool

Connect the SERDIA diagnostic tool (the official Deutz engine diagnostics program used by Fendt).

  6. Clear the fault

Execute the "SERDIA (delete error)" command for FC:007B to manually delete the fault in the engine control unit.

  7. Repair or replace ECU

If the wiring is perfectly intact but the CAN message remains missing, the A051 EDC 7 unit itself may have suffered an internal communication failure and will require repair or replacement.
