Fendt 1.2.BF – Engine Control Unit (ECU): A051 - ECU, engine control unit (EDC 7). CAN-message missing.

The tractor's communication network has lost the CAN bus signal from the engine control unit. This means the engine controller is not reporting to the transmission or basic control unit, which will typically result in restricted operating mode, torque limitation, or the engine shutting down/failing to start.

   Verify the power supply and microfuses for the CAN bus circuit board

   Inspect separation points (connectors X1466, X1671, and X1672) directly on the A051 ECU for corrosion or loose pins

   Refer to electrical diagram Sheet 36 (EDC control module / transmission bus / enhanced control bus) to trace the CAN lines for breaks or shorts

   Connect the SERDIA diagnostic software to check if the ECU is communicating (a red bar indicates no connection to the A051 unit)

   Access the ECU

   Power down the tractor and disconnect the battery. Locate the A051 Engine Control Unit, which is typically mounted at the right entrance step (you will need to remove the battery case/panel to access it).

   Wiring Repair

   Disconnect the X1466, X1671, and X1672 connectors. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner. If a broken CAN wire is found during continuity testing, repair the harness.

   ECU Replacement/Cloning

   If the wiring is intact and power/ground are present but the CAN message is still missing, the Bosch EDC7 ECU has likely suffered an internal hardware failure (e.g., water damage or blown component). Remove the ECU.

   Programming

   You cannot simply plug-and-play a used ECU. A replacement unit must undergo EOL (End of Line) programming or be cloned from the original unit so that the immobilizer (A077) and engine configuration parameters match.

   Clear Faults

   Reinstall the repaired/cloned ECU, reconnect the battery, and use the SERDIA diagnostic tool to delete the stored error (FC:007F).
