1.2.C3

Fendt 1.2.C3 – EDC Control Module (A021) / Pump Control Unit (A020): CAN message failure or connection interruption between EDC and pump control unit

Issue description

Indicates a CAN message failure or connection interruption between the EDC (Electronic Diesel Control) control module and the pump control unit (injection pump) when the engine starts. When this fault is active, the engine goes into a restricted idle mode, running at a fixed 720 RPM.

Applies to these machines

Check the cause

  1. Verify Symptoms: Confirm that the engine is restricted to idle (720 RPM) upon startup.

  2. Analyze Codes First: Check for other active codes that might indicate a broader CAN bus failure before replacing any pump or control module.

  3. Wiring and Connection Inspection: Check the CAN bus wiring for a break in the wiring or a short circuit between the EDC Control Module (A021) and the Injection Pump Control Unit (A020).

  4. Consult Diagrams: Refer to the Fendt workshop manual 'Chapter 2000 Reg.B (EDC-Failure)' and the electrical circuit diagram specifically labeled 'EDC Control' to trace the CAN lines.

Repair steps

  1. Inspect harness

Physically inspect the wiring harness and connectors linking the EDC control module to the injection pump. Look for chafed wires, corrosion, or loose pins.

  2. Repair wiring

If a wiring discontinuity or short circuit is found on the CAN bus lines, repair or replace the affected section of the harness.

  3. Clear codes

Use the Fendt SERDIA diagnostic software to delete the error code (FC:00C1) and retest the system.

  4. Replace component

If the wiring is fully intact and the CAN message failure persists, the fault lies within either the EDC Control Module (A021) or the Injection Pump Control Unit (A020). Replace the faulty module according to the manual's test procedures.

  5. Reprogram module

If the EDC control module is replaced, EOL (End of Line) programming may be required to match the engine control unit to the tractor model.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • EDC Control Module / Engine Control Unit (ECU)

Generic designation: A021 or A051 / EDC 7. OEM Part Number varies heavily by specific chassis/engine.

  • Injection Pump / Pump Control Unit

    F530200710230

Exact fitment must be verified against the specific tractor's chassis number.

  • Injection Pump / Pump Control Unit

    F312200710060

Exact fitment must be verified against the specific tractor's chassis number.

  • CAN Bus Wiring Harness / Connectors

Generic replacement wiring and pins as dictated by the 'EDC Control' electrical diagram.
